Pot Paintings

The still life is an artistic forum as old as painting itself. The usual vase of flowers or fruit are common in any gallery and I also use the format often during the winter months. When searching for subject matter for a still life I came upon a vase created by Saskia Rivera, a ceramist, artist and good friend.

It was then I got the idea to use her works as part of the composition of the still life and offer both the ceramic and the painting as one work of art together.

After I had completed enough work of this kind I had our first "Pot-Painting" show at the American Legacy Gallery in Kansas City. The show was a success inspiring me to continue producing these pieces when ever Saskia and I get together. She is currently living (2004) and working in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
